Crews will be performing multiple rolling road blocks to pace traffic approaching the project (located in front of Davidson-Davie Community College) during blasting operations.  The rolling road blocks will begin around 10:00 AM and will continue till around 1:00 PM.  During the rolling road blocks, traffic will be temporarily slowed to create a gap with no traffic passing the blast area. Traffic stoppage may occur to allow completion of the work. Once the blasting is complete, the traffic will resume at normal speed through the project.

Starting at 7 p.m. Friday (Mar. 24) through 5 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 27, one lane on U.S. 70 Westbound at the Grantham Road intersection will be closed. This closure will also include all U.S. 70 turning lane onto East Grantham Road. Access from East Grantham Road  to U.S. 70 Westbound will be from the service road. 
The contractor will be changing the travel pattern through this area as they perform work. Please pay close attention to posted signs for directions and be cautious as you drive through this active construction zone. The speed limit through this area will temporarily be reduced to 40 mph. This work is weather dependent.

Milling and resurfacing of pavement. Crews will begin milling and resurfacing lanes of US 70 between McCabe Rd (SR1147) and Hams Rd (SR1237) on March 20, 2023 at 8 AM. All lanes of east and west US70 between these two roads will be worked on,(one lane at a time), during daylight hours. Hours will be between 8 AM and 7 PM daily. Work may also occur on the weekends ( as deemed necessary by the contractor). No work will be allowed at any time between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Construction of a reduced conflict intersection at the median crossover near the Lowes entrance.  This will require the existing crossover to be closed during construction in addition to lane closures.

As part of the continuing construction along US 29/70 at Old Greensboro Road and Davidson Davie Community College, the existing exit from US 29/70 North and South to Old Greensboro Road will be closed for construction.  
During this time, a new exit location will be available for US 29/70 North traffic wishing to access Old Greensboro Road and DDCC.  This exit will be located prior to the closed exit.  For US 29/70 South traffic, Evans Road will be used to access Old Greensboro Road and DDCC.

Exit 318 (the ramp to I-40 East) is closed for approximately 14 months.

Congestion

 
The work zone for the C204359 project will extend from US 70 Bus to the Neuse River Bridges. Traffic within the project limit can expect congestion until September 2024 during the following times: 7 am to 5 pm Monday - Friday. Starting 9/8/2021, the travel lanes on US 70 in both directions will go from 12 FT wide to 11 FT wide. This will be temporary and should last between 1 - 1.5 years.
